ŠKODA has won two awards in the ‘Company Car Award 2022’ readers’ poll conducted by the trade magazine Auto Bild. The FABIA received the most votes in the ‘small car’ category and the brand’s bestseller, the OCTAVIA, outperformed its rivals in the ‘mid-size’ category.

 

Up to ten models with the most new registrations between January and July this year were nominated across a total of seven categories. Statistics from the Federal Motor Transport Authority were used as the basis for the data.

Fourth Company Car award in a row for the ŠKODA FABIA
Leaving four imported vehicles and five models from German manufacturers behind, the ŠKODA FABIA came out ahead of the field in the ‘small car’ category. With this year’s success, the model has secured its fourth company car award in a row. The current, fourth generation of the small car is based on the Volkswagen Group’s MQB-A0 platform and boasts an emotive design, efficient powertrains and the spaciousness ŠKODA cars are known for, making the FABIA an ideal company car. Long-distance drivers also appreciate the optional 50-litre fuel tank, which increases the range to up to 900 kilometres.

Fourth successive victory for the brand’s bestseller, the OCTAVIA
The ŠKODA OCTAVIA also came out on top in this year’s readers’ poll against four imported and five German rival models, picking up its fourth company car award in a row. Featuring extensive standard equipment and a host of assistance systems, the Czech carmaker’s bestseller offers a high level of comfort and is setting standards in active and passive safety. Voice control, which comes as standard, offers intuitive operation. In addition, the OCTAVIA saloon scores points with plenty of space for up to five people and can hold up to 1,555 litres of luggage with the rear seats folded down. The OCTAVIA COMBI offers up to 1,700 litres of boot space.

With a total of five awards, ŠKODA is once again the front-runner in this year’s ‘Auto Trophy 2022′ readers’ poll conducted by the trade magazine Auto Zeitung, once again scoring better than any other brand. The KAMIQ tops the list of ‘imported SUVs under 30,000 euros’, while the ENYAQ iV leads the field in the ‘imported electric SUVs under 50,000 euros’ category. Readers voted the SUPERB into first place in two categories: It emerged as the import winner in the ‘mid-size class’ and also received the prize for the best price-performance ratio. For the ninth time in a row, voters in the readers’ poll also named ŠKODA the best import brand.

 

This year, 16,657 readers and online users took part in the 35th round of the ‘Auto Trophy’ readers’ poll organised by the trade magazine Auto Zeitung. They selected the winners from a total of 226 models and 95 brands across 32 categories. One in ten respondents considers ŠKODA the ‘best import brand’. ŠKODA has now secured this title for the ninth time in a row since 2014.

City-SUV ŠKODA KAMIQ prevails in ‘Import SUV under 30,000 euros’ category
In the ‘Imported SUV up to 30,000 euros’ category, the ŠKODA KAMIQ left the competition behind with 16.3% of the votes, landing it in first place. The city SUV combines the best features of an SUV, including a higher seating position and increased ground clearance with the agility of a compact vehicle and the brand’s emotive design.

ENYAQ iV number one in the ‘Imported electric SUV under 50,000 euros’ category
Readers voted the ŠKODA ENYAQ iV into first place among ‘imported electric SUVs under 50,000 euros’. With 20.51%, one in five votes were for the Czech carmaker’s electric flagship. With space to comfortably seat five people and a boot capacity of 585 litres, increasing to 1,710 litres with the rear seats folded down, the ENYAQ iV is an ideal everyday companion for families. Depending on the version, it has a range of up to 544 kilometres in the WLTP cycle, and with short charging times, it a great choice for long journeys.

Two awards for the ŠKODA SUPERB
Readers of the Auto Zeitung were impressed by the ŠKODA SUPERB’s comprehensive equipment, efficient drive systems and the spaciousness ŠKODA cars are known for. It won two awards for these features in the ‘Auto Trophy 2022’. The SUPERB secured almost one in four votes (24.56%) in the ‘Imported mid-class’ category, taking it all the way to the top. In addition, with 24.77% of all votes, it placed first in the ‘Best price-performance ratio’ category.

The ŠKODA ENYAQ COUPÉ RS iV has won the prestigious Golden Steering Wheel 2022. Readers of the German automotive trade magazine ‘Auto Bild’ and the newspaper ‘Bild am Sonntag’ initially voted the ENYAQ COUPÉ RS iV into the final three in the ‘mid-size SUV’ category before a panel of experts put the model through its paces at the Lausitzring. This year’s trophy is now the eighth Golden Steering Wheel ŠKODA AUTO has won. ŠKODA AUTO CEO Klaus Zellmer accepted the award yesterday at the gala in Berlin.

ENYAQ COUPÉ RS iV holds its own against electric cars and ICE models
47 automotive innovations introduced over the last twelve months faced off in one of eleven categories for the Golden Steering Wheel 2022. This time, the organisers did not differentiate between cars with combustion engines and electric motors. The ‘mid-size SUV’ category included nine vehicles, six of which had electric drives. As one of the three favourites in its category in the readers’ poll, the ENYAQ COUPÉ RS iV was put to the test by a 19-strong panel of experts, comprising journalists, presenters and well-known racing drivers in comprehensive test drives at the Lausitzring. The judges included motorsport legend Hans-Joachim Stuck, the former Formula 1 driver and Le Mans winner, former Formula E driver Daniel Abt as well as Maximilian Götz, the 2021 DTM champion. They evaluated criteria such as handling, all-round visibility and spaciousness. The ENYAQ COUPÉ RS iV boasts all-wheel drive and two electric motors and is ŠKODA’s most powerful current production model with a system output of 220 kW. It won over the panel with the most coherent overall package among all the mid-size SUVs.

Sporty coupé rounds off the upper end of the ENYAQ series
As the first all-electric member of the sporty ŠKODA RS family, the ENYAQ COUPÉ RS iV complements the successfully launched ENYAQ iV electric SUV. With its gently sloping roofline from the B-pillar onwards, the ENYAQ COUPÉ RS iV offers generous space in the back and a boot capacity of 570 litres. The excellent drag coefficient of cw 0.248 contributes to the model’s impressive range of over 500 kilometres in the WLTP cycle.

ENYAQ COUPÉ RS iV wins eighth Golden Steering Wheel for ŠKODA
The first Golden Steering Wheel was presented by ‘Bild am Sonntag’ in 1976. Since 2009, the German Sunday newspaper has awarded the prize in collaboration with ‘Auto Bild’, Europe’s largest automotive magazine. The success of the ENYAQ COUPÉ RS iV this year marks ŠKODA AUTO’s eighth win in the renowned automotive competition. The Czech car manufacturer’s first Golden Steering Wheel went to the first-generation FABIA in 1999, with its successor repeating the feat in 2007. The second-generation OCTAVIA won in 2004, while the second-generation SUPERB took the prize in 2008. In 2017, the KAROQ left the competition behind, and the KAMIQ secured the coveted award in 2019. Last year, the Golden Steering Wheel went to the ENYAQ iV.

ŠKODA AUTO has celebrated three production milestones since the start of the month: the 750,000th KODIAQ SUV rolled off the production line in Kvasiny, while the carmaker had also produced four million EA211 engines and 15 million of the latest-generation transmissions. Both of these components are installed in vehicles of other Volkswagen Group brands, as well.

750,000 ŠKODA KODIAQs
The KODIAQ marked the beginning of the Czech carmaker’s SUV campaign. Last year, the company unveiled an update of its successful model, which is available with up to seven seats. Since its market launch in autumn 2016, the Czech carmaker has built three quarters of a million units of its large SUV. The anniversary model rolled off the production line at the Kvasiny plant. This is where the car manufacturer also produces the KAROQ and the SUPERB as well as the SUPERB iV.

Four million EA211 engines
ŠKODA AUTO has been producing EA211 engines at its main plant in Mladá Boleslav since 2012 and has now passed the four-million milestone. Currently, just under 700 employees produce around 2,500 units with aluminium engine blocks every day. The powertrain is produced in the three-cylinder variants 1.0 MPI, 1.0 MPI EVO, 1.0 TSI and 1.0 TSI EVO as well as the four-cylinder 1.6 MPI and 1.4 TSI. Besides ŠKODA models, these Czech-made engines are also used worldwide in vehicles built by the Group brands Audi, Volkswagen and SEAT.

15 million latest-generation transmissions produced
ŠKODA AUTO has also manufactured the 15 millionth transmission of the current generation across all types. More than two million units of the MQ/SQ100 manual transmission have rolled off the Mladá Boleslav production line since 2011. ŠKODA currently uses the transmission in the FABIA, and it is also installed in models of other Volkswagen Group brands. The Czech car manufacturer has also made almost 8.5 million units of the MQ200 five- and six-speed manual transmission at its main plant in Mladá Boleslav since production began in 2001. It is used in various ŠKODA models around the world, including the KUSHAQ and the SLAVIA, as well as other Group brands’ models. ŠKODA’s component plant in Vrchlabí has also produced more than 4 million units of the DQ200 automatic direct-shift gearbox since the start of production in 2012. This is also installed in vehicles of other Group brands besides the Czech carmaker’s models.

Ensuring the maximum possible safety of its vehicles is a top priority for ŠKODA AUTO and is also a long-standing tradition: A ŠKODA 100 L was the first documented vehicle to undergo crash testing 50 years ago in Prague-Ruzyně in what was then Czechoslovakia. Today, ŠKODA operates a state-of-the-art crash test facility at its Úhelnice-based Polygon Test Centre, which was comprehensively expanded in 2020 and even won the Crash Laboratory of the Year 2020 from the Automotive Testing Technology International trade journal. The results from the Euro NCAP reference test and the Global NCAP test for crash safety attest to the Czech car manufacturer’s impressive track record; all 15 new ŠKODA models introduced since 2008 have achieved the highest five-star rating. In 2021, the current FABIA and ENYAQ iV were named the safest vehicles in their respective classes.

Steadfast commitment to optimal active and passive safety 

ŠKODA has once again expanded its state-of-the-art crash lab at the Polygon Úhelnice Test Centre near Mladá Boleslav to ensure the best possible test conditions. However, crash tests have been conducted in what is now the Czech Republic for 50 years; following the first documented test in May 1972 on a ŠKODA 100 L, crash tests were subsequently designed by specialised staff.
