With its exceptionally spacious cabin and class-leading rear legroom, the all-new ŠKODA Superb is set to be a great place to do business when UK deliveries start later this year. And, thanks to the introduction from launch of a new SE Business trim level, company car drivers will get to enjoy an even higher level of specification, comfort and refinement.

Milton Keynes, 23rd March 2015 - Designed to meet the specific needs of the fleet market, SE Business trim level adds a raft of additional equipment over the already well-equipped SE model.

The specification, which adds even greater comfort and technology, includes upmarket Alcantara upholstery; front and rear parking sensors and stylish sunset glass from the B-pillar back, to help keep occupants cool. ŠKODA’s Amundsen touchscreen satellite navigation system is included as standard, with a 6.5-inch colour touchscreen and Bluetooth telephone integration, as well as SmartLink (which integrates mobile phone functions via Apple CarPlay, MirrorLink and Google Android Auto). Also featured is Drive mode selection, which enables drivers to choose between Eco, Sport or Normal driving profiles. From 2016*, a Phone box with wireless charging and an enhanced mobile signal will also be standard, meaning driver’s phones will always be charged without the need to plug in.

As on the SE, SE Business models also come with stylish 17-inch alloy wheels; dual-zone air conditioning; lumbar support, cornering front fog lights; electrically folding door mirrors; Front Assist and Adaptive Cruise Control.

Despite the significant increase in standard equipment, SE Business models are priced at exactly the same level as SE models, making for a seriously competitive P11D price.

Two EU6-compliant diesel engines are available from launch: a 1.6-litre 120PS unit and a 2.0-litre 150PS motor. DSG transmissions are available on both. A GreenLine model, which is expected to return 76.4mpg combined and emit just 95g/km of CO2, will join the line-up in due course. Prices start at just £21,590 for the 1.6-litre 120PS model.

New Superb - the most advanced ŠKODA ever built

The new Superb features a striking design with sharp creases along the flanks and a svelte coupe-like profile. While it is 28mm longer and 47mm wider than its predecessor, it’s the 80mm longer wheelbase that drivers will most appreciate, as it makes for an even more spacious passenger compartment. The boot is 30 litres larger than before, at 625 litres, expanding to a cavernous 1,760 litres with the rear seat backs folded.

Despite the increased size, the new ŠKODA Superb is up to 75kg lighter than its predecessor, thanks in part to weight-saving measures made available by the car’s advanced MQB construction. This helps make it both more efficient and more agile.

The new Superb is also brimming with new technology and ŠKODA’s acclaimed Simply Clever features. Designed and engineered to make the new Superb safer and more comfortable, new optional features include the clever Virtual pedal system, which opens the boot with just the wave of a foot under the rear bumper; Blind spot detection; Rear traffic alert (which makes reversing out of parking spaces safer); third-generation Park assist (which enables automatic parking in parallel spaces, and in perpendicular spaces either nose-first or tail-first) and, on DSG-equipped models, Traffic jam assist, which makes driving in heavy traffic less stressful.

ŠKODA has confirmed its remarkable success and growth with record sales and financial results for 2014 – breaking the one million deliveries milestone for the first time in its 120-year history.

Mladá Boleslav, 17th March 2015 – Global deliveries increased by 12.7% to 1,037,200 vehicles (2013: 920,800) while ŠKODA’s worldwide market share rose to 1.4% (2013: 1.3%). ŠKODA also posted record financial results, with sales revenue increasing 13.9% to 11.8 billion euros (2013: 10.3 billion euros), and operating profit increasing 56.5% to 817 million euros (2013: 522 million euros).

“2014 was another good year for ŠKODA,” said ŠKODA CEO Prof. Dr. h.c. Winfried Vahland. “By delivering more than one million vehicles for the first time in a single year, we have sustainably established ourselves as a volume manufacturer on the international markets with our modern model range. It is on this basis that our brand will be perusing our growth strategy.” ŠKODA plans to continue this success and increase sales in 2015 despite the globally challenging market environment.

In 2014 ŠKODA also set new records for the company in terms of sales revenue and profit. Sales revenue increased 13.9% to 11.8 billion euros (2013: 10.3 billion euros). Operating profit rose 56.5% to 817 million euros (2013: 522 million euros), representing 7.0% of the sales revenue (2013: 5.1%). “ŠKODA is growing profitably. Given the challenging situation on the markets and the ongoing intense competition, cost discipline continues to have the highest priority,” said ŠKODA CFO Winfried Krause.

Net liquidity rose 40.3% to 2.065 billion euros in 2014 after 1.472 billion euros in 2013. Investments amounted to 698 million euros in 2014 (2013: 741 million euros). Profit before tax reached 775 million euros (2013: 536 million euros), and profit after tax in 2014 totalled 665 million euros (2013: 455 million euros).

Product-driven expansion key to ongoing success

2014 was a year characterised by the most comprehensive and ambitious model campaign of all time. That growth continues in 2015 with the arrival of the new ŠKODA Fabia and new Superb.

Its dimensions and spaciousness move the Superb to the upper end of the automotive mid-class. In addition to the qualities that have made ŠKODA popular, such as functionality, space and value for money, the Superb now sets standards in terms of design and technology, and marks the dawn of a new era for ŠKODA. The new ŠKODA flagship celebrated its world premiere this February in Prague, and is due to be launched on the market in early summer, 2015.

Over the next few months, ŠKODA will be releasing even more product highlights including the new ŠKODA Octavia vRS 230, the new ŠKODA Fabia Monte Carlo and the fantastic special ‘Edition’ model for ŠKODA’s Fabia, Rapid, Octavia and Yeti series.

ŠKODA plans to increase their global sales to at least 1.5 million vehicles within the next few years. “After crossing the million mark, 1.5 million seems a whole lot closer,” said Prof. Vahland. To achieve their growth targets, the manufacturer is expanding the production plants both in the Czech Republic and at their sites around the world.

Although there are probably more exciting cars on the Geneva Motor Show floor, Skoda’s Superb is a stand-out example of how competent the design departments of the VW Group have become.

The level of precision shown in the car’s surfacing is a delight, while the theme of  extreme accuracy is reflected in details like the car’s front lamps that look like works taken from a high-end glassmaker – how far Skoda has come from its humble origins is striking to say the least.

The cabin is well executed, too, with an attention to trim materials that really impress, including Barbour-jacket-style quilted upholstery that looks classy and hard-wearing but not ostentatious.

However, it’s extremely hard to look at the Skoda without thinking of other VW Group cars, from Seat lamp graphics, to Audi bonnet shutlines and tail-lamps, to the width of IP so prized for adding premium feel in Volkswagen’s latest cars.

The new Superb certainly appears to do justice to its name. But while a subtle reference or family resemblance is, if anything, to be encouraged, is the Superb’s design a little too incestuous when you take the whole VW Group into account?

The new ŠKODA Superb rolled into the spotlight today with a spectacular world premiere at the Forum Karlín in Prague. The new ŠKODA Superb revolutionises the brand’s design.

Mladá Boleslav/ Prague, 17th February 2015 – Generous dimensions, innovative safety assistance systems, a focus on the environment and comfort, plus powerful EU6 engines and ŠKODA-typical ‘Simply Clever’ features have moved the brand’s flagship to the upper end of the automotive mid-class. The new Superb is the best ŠKODA ever and the highlight of the company’s largest-ever model campaign.

ŠKODA CEO Prof. Dr. h.c. Winfried Vahland said: “This car marks the beginning of a new era for ŠKODA. In recent years, we have renewed and expanded our model range. The new ŠKODA Superb demonstrates our aspirations in the automotive mid-class. In terms of creativity and technology, it reaches a new level of performance, shows ŠKODA’s reclaimed position and leads the way into the future of the brand. This fantastic car will attract new private and business customers to ŠKODA.”

The world premiere of the new ŠKODA Superb took place in Forum Karlín in Prague, in front of 800 guests – ŠKODA welcomed international media representatives as well as guests from the group, the company, politics, business and society. The new ŠKODA Superb was the star of the evening. Its first appearance was accompanied by the world premiere of the ‘Superb Symphony’ with the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra. Other highlights included performances from soul legend Chaka Khan and singer Aura Dione.

ŠKODA intends to continue the success story of the brand’s top model range with the third-generation Superb. To date, more than 700,000 first- and second-generation Superbs have been delivered to customers.

Elegance, strength, dynamism – revolutionary ŠKODA design
With its new design, the new ŠKODA Superb demonstrates the brand’s emotional strength, bringing the exciting design language of the ‘ŠKODA VisionC’ show car into production. “The wheelbase has been increased by 80mm and at the same time the front vehicle overhang is 61mm shorter than before. This new architecture provides the car with dynamic elegance,” said ŠKODA’s Head of Design Jozef Kaban. At the same time, the new Superb offers further improved functionality and even more space.

The front conveys power and self-assurance. The striking grille, distinctive headlights and the deeply-drawn front-end architecture – all of this has been designed for increased optical width. The bonnet has powerfully shaped contours. The side view appears dynamic and elegant. The razor-sharp tornado line stretches the vehicle and, together with additional lighter surfaces, creates effective contrasts between light and shade. The car’s narrow pillars, the precision-cut window outline and the gently sloping roofline give the vehicle a coupé-style look. The large wheels and the striking wheel arches emphasise the exclusive appearance.

The design of the rear is self-confident and powerful. Horizontal lines are also accentuated here. The two-part, broad and narrow taillights feature LED technology as standard and intensify the ŠKODA-typical ‘C’ shape of the lights. At the same time, crystalline elements provide the taillights with additional luminosity. The completely redesigned interior continues the essential design details of the exterior. This includes the emphasis on horizontal lines, which gives the already spacious interior an even more generous feel. Clear shapes, precise workmanship and the use of high-quality materials result in a premium appearance.

Upgrade – a new dimension of comfort and spaceThe space of the new Superb has once again increased in comparison to the already generous values of the previous model. The driver and front seat passenger enjoy 39mm more elbow room and more headroom. With 157mm legroom the rear space is almost stately. This is about twice as much as in the nearest competitor model. The headroom measures 980mm; no other model in the segment can offer this. The rear elbow room has increased by 69mm. The 625-litre boot capacity is the top value in its segment, 30 litres more than in the second-generation Superb.

The new ŠKODA Superb is the brand’s first model offering adaptive Dynamic Chassis Control (DCC) including Driving Mode Select. New air-conditioning systems, including for the first time three-zone air conditioning, provide optimum temperature control and air quality. An electric sliding and tilting panoramic roof is optional. Auxiliary heating, heated seats, wireless heated windscreen and heated washer jets are available for the colder months. The rain/light sensor switches the windscreen wipers on and off automatically and automatically switches between daytime running lights and dipped beam as required.

Instead of one umbrella in the rear left door there is now one umbrella in each of the front doors. The new, electric tailgate is particularly convenient and can be complemented with an optional virtual pedal, where the customer can open the boot by waving a foot under the rear bumper. The electric tailgate and virtual pedal work in combination with the KESSY automatic locking and starting system. The new Superb comes with the latest generation of Park Assist for automatically driving in and out of parking spaces. In addition, the car features a rear-view camera for the first time. The traditional handbrake is replaced by an electric parking brake as standard.

Perfectly connected
Connectivity features make their entrance in the third-generation ŠKODA Superb. There is a total of four, completely new infotainment systems based on Volkswagen Group’s MIB technology (Modularer Infotainment-Baukasten). The Columbus top model is optionally available with an integrated high-speed internet connection based on the LTE standard. This is a first for ŠKODA.

The ŠKODA Superb can be connected to a smartphone for the first time and selected apps can be operated from the infotainment system’s screen. SmartLink includes MirrorLinkTM, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The SmartGate interface, developed by ŠKODA, allows certain vehicle data to be accessed and on the user’s smartphone apps. The new ŠKODA Media Command app and the Wi-Fi hotspot integrated into the Columbus system allows the infotainment system to be controlled remotely from the rear seats for the first time. The Canton Sound System with 12 speakers and 610W output turn the new ŠKODA Superb into a concert hall on wheels.

A new dimension of ‘Simply Clever’
The new ŠKODA Superb is the cleverest ŠKODA ever. 29 ‘Simply Clever’ features make life easier for driver and passengers. Some 23 solutions are new in the Superb, 10 of these are completely new for the brand. The new ‘Simply Clever’ solutions include practical items such as a mechanically retractable towing device, a tablet holder in the rear, a tablet storage compartment in the front centre armrest, a USB port and 230V socket in the rear, cup-holders that allow single-handed opening for 0.5-litre bottles and an extra high-visibility vest storage compartment in all four doors. Both front and both rear doors will each hold a 1.5-litre bottle. The interior’s versatility is increased by the option to fold down the back seats from the boot. The passenger seat can also be folded forward. New cargo fasteners secure loose objects in the boot. An ice scraper in the fuel filler flap is standard. In addition, there are new storage nets on the inside edges of the front seats, a removable LED torch in the boot and misfuel protection.

Top efficiency
The new ŠKODA Superb’s new engines offer up to 30 per cent lower fuel consumption values and emissions. The ŠKODA Superb GreenLine consumes just 3.7 l/ 100km (76.4mpg) and emits 95g CO2 per km. The vehicle is up to 75kg lighter and the aerodynamics have been improved. The combination of up to 20 per cent more power, reduced air resistance and a reduction in weight also result in remarkable driving dynamics.

The new ŠKODA Superb comes with direct-injection turbocharged engines based on MQB technology (five TSI petrol, three TDI common-rail diesel). All powertrains comply with EU6 standards and have Stop-Start technology and brake energy recovery as standard. The petrol engines have a power output of between 92kW (125HP) and 206kW (280HP), the diesel engines between 88kW (120HP) and 140kW (190HP). Except for the entry-level petrol version, all engines are available with modern dual-clutch transmission. Four engines are available with all-wheel drive based on the Haldex 5 clutch.

No compromise on safety
The top-level safety of the new ŠKODA Superb is impressive. Electronic Stability Control including Multi-Collision Brake is standard. The additional standard equipment for EU countries includes: Front Assist with Emergency Brake, electronic Tyre Pressure Monitor, seven airbags, and five three-point automatic seat belts with fastening alerts as well as safety headrests. Rear side airbags are optional. Also standard: XDS+, a function of the electronic differential lock. From the Ambition trim line upwards, a Speedlimiter is fitted as standard.

Optional assistance systems are also available. Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) keeps the vehicle at a safe distance from the vehicle ahead. With the enhanced Crew Protect Assist, driver and front passenger are ‘prepared’ for an impending collision. Lane Assist helps the vehicle stay in lane. Traffic Jam Assist, available for the first time for the model and for the brand, increases safety and comfort in traffic and during stop-start driving. The new Emergency Assist activates the brakes, should the driver become incapable of driving, automatically bringing the vehicle to a standstill.

The completely new Blind Spot Detect system supports the driver in changing lanes safely by alerting them to vehicles in their blind spot. A core component of Blind Spot Detect is the Rear Traffic Alert function which is available for the brand and model for the first time. Driver Alert guards against driver fatigue. Travel Assist with Traffic Sign Recognition, available for the first time in the ŠKODA Superb, constantly informs the driver about the current traffic situation.

The headlights are fitted with halogen technology or with bi-xenon lights including AFS function and LED daytime running lights. The high beam can be electronically controlled via Light Assist or via the extended Smart Light Assist function (masked high beam). Striking rear LED lights are standard in the new Superb, and there are also two reflectors on both sides of the rear bumper. The new Superb’s completely redeveloped chassis with MacPherson strut front and multi-link rear axle provides optimum driving stability even in demanding situations.
