ŠKODA has taken home the double at the annual Fleet World Honours. The ŠKODA Superb won the accolade for Best Upper Medium Car for an impressive third consecutive year, and the recently launched seven-seat Kodiaq took the title of Best Large Family Car of the Year.

Milton Keynes, 13 February 2018: The ŠKODA Superb has once again impressed with its spacious interior, wide engine range and low Whole Life Costs. The Superb offers fleet drivers powertrains from 120PS to 280PS, and enhanced driving features such as Adaptive Cruise Control, Park Assist, Lane Assist and Blind Spot Detect for a more refined driving experience. The cavernous interior adds to its comfort, with 660 litres of boot space that extends to 1950 litres with all rear seats folded down, which makes it a winning solution for both business and home life.

Commenting on the Superb’s title, Alex Grant, editor, Fleet World, said: “The Superb takes its third successive win in this category, because it remains a no-brainer for fleets. It’s not only a highly functional, cost-efficient product for job-need users, but the design, refinement and driving experience has lured drivers out of premium products. ŠKODA has, quite rightly, become the benchmark even its longest-standing rivals measure themselves by.”

The title of Best Large Family Car, was awarded to the seven-seat ŠKODA Kodiaq, as a testament to the vehicle’s versatility, enhanced safety features and value for money. The Kodiaq combines practicality and style and includes an array of innovative technology as standard, including SmartLink+ and touchscreen infotainment system to help drivers stay connected when on the move.

The seven-seater also boasts the largest luggage space in its class, with 720/630 litres of boot space that transforms to 2065 / 2005 with the rear seats down in the 5/7 seats models respectively, helping transport both people and goods comfortably.

Explaining Fleet World’s decision, Alex Grant adds: “ŠKODA prides itself on clever solutions to family life, and the Kodiaq takes that into new territory. Available with seven adult-sized seats and packed full of storage space, it’s a flexible alternative to the traditional MPV, offered with an extensive range of drivetrains and trims to suit most users. A family-mover perfectly tuned to market tastes, and clever with it.”

Henry Williams, Head of Fleet for ŠKODA UK, commented: “Three years after its launch, it’s fantastic to see that the ŠKODA Superb still lives up to its name and remains in high demand from businesses looking for an executive car that delivers on style, performance and value for money. We look forward to the Kodiaq continuing to be a stand-out SUV in the sector over the next few years as well.”

With its compact proportions, the ŠKODA VISION X is presented as the ideal companion for an active, urban lifestyle. Precise lines and clear surface contours characterise the exterior and highlight the dynamic character of the FlexGreen-painted hybrid study. A roof in contrasting Anthracite sets sporty accents. In addition, distinctive bumpers, dominant side sills, a large panoramic glass roof and 20-inch alloy wheels create a powerful look. The sharp design was inspired by traditional Czech glasswork.

The interior of the ŠKODA VISION X defines a fundamentally new design language. The wide, ergonomically contoured dashboard with freestanding colour display dominates the visual impression in the interior. The infotainment and connectivity services can be accessed quickly and intuitively via the screen. Illuminated elements made of cut crystal glass in conjunction with the colour display create atmospheric lighting effects.

The ŠKODA VISION X is the Czech automobile manufacturer’s vision of a modern crossover. By adding a third model to the successful SUV family, ŠKODA would like to open up new target groups and increase their enthusiasm for the brand. Expanding the range of models with a focus on the fast-growing SUV segment is a cornerstone of ŠKODA’s Strategy 2025. By 2025, ŠKODA AUTO will have brought out plug-in hybrid vehicles in addition to all-electric cars. Then, every fourth vehicle the brand sells worldwide will have a plug-in hybrid or purely electric powertrain.

The ŠKODA FABIA is embarking on the next chapter of its success story with wide-ranging enhancements in terms of both design and technology.

The popular small car will now boast even greater appeal thanks to restyled front and rear sections, the introduction of LED head and rear lights, as well as a refined interior. Lively and efficient 1.0 gasoline engines, as well as additional assistance systems underline the sophisticated character of the ŠKODA FABIA.

The line-up of engines for the ŠKODA FABIA will consist of four petrol drivetrains, each with three cylinders and a capacity of 1.0 litre, whose performance is as eager as it is efficient. The MPI engines feature indirect injection and produce outputs of 44 kW (60 hp) and 55 kW (75 hp) respectively.

The two TSI drivetrains are both packed with advanced engineering, including turbocharging and direct petrol injection, enabling them to generate 70 kW (95 hp) and 81 kW (110 hp). Both TSI engines are fitted with gasoline particulate filter. The most powerful of the quartet of engines can be matched with a seven-speed DSG gearbox as an option.

The new Blind Spot Detection feature alerts the driver to the presence of vehicles in the blind spot or approaching rapidly from behind when driving on multi-lane highways.

The Rear Traffic Alert system monitors what is going on behind the vehicle and warns of a risk of collision when reversing.

Another newly available feature is Light Assist, which automatically switches to low beam as soon as the system detects oncoming traffic or vehicles ahead.

The infotainment system 'Swing' now offers a 6.5-inch display and also allows drivers to use the full range of mobile online services from ŠKODA Connect

When equipped with the 'Amundsen' navigation system, the ŠKODA FABIA will also now offer theOnline Traffic Information service with real-time information on traffic holdups.

Meanwhile, innovative SmartLink+ technology makes it possible to enjoy all the benefits of the Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, MirrorLinkTM and SmartGate standards.

An even greater number of these ’Simply Clever‘ features is now available. The ice scraper concealed in the fuel filler flap now incorporates, as a new function, a gauge for measuring the tyre tread depth

The car can also be equipped with USB ports for the rear-seat passengers for added comfort. Customers can also opt for a double-sided boot mat

ŠKODA has continued its winning streak at the What Car? Awards, driving off with two category wins and no fewer than five price point victories. Widely regarded as the ‘Oscars’ of the automotive world, the 2018 What Car? Awards are among the most coveted in the industry. The new Octavia and Superb once again proved unbeatable in the eyes of the What Car? judging panel – with both models repeating their victories in their respective sectors.

Milton Keynes, 25 January 2018: Leading ŠKODA’s silverware haul was the recently updated Octavia, which reclaimed the title of Best Family Car. The Octavia’s 2018 victory was the model’s third category triumph in five years – a remarkable achievement given the number of models competing in the sector. The judging panel praised the Octavia’s exceptional all-round ability, with What Car? Editor Steve Huntingford adding: “The Octavia has long been the car that we'd recommend to people looking for comfort and space from their family hatchback. But an update last year has made it better than ever. Our favoured 1.5-litre petrol engine is both strong and frugal, the suspension is perfectly judged for UK roads and the Octavia can take more luggage than most estate cars.”

Not to be outdone by its smaller sibling, the Superb Estate proved unbeatable once again, and was named Best Estate Car 2018 for the third year in a row. Despite the arrival of new models within the sector, the Superb’s cavernous interior, high quality, remarkable value for money and low running costs saw it rise to the top of the list once again.

Commenting on the Superb’s hat-trick of Estate Car titles, Steve Huntingford, What Car? Editor said: “The Superb Estate is classy, comfortable and so spacious that we struggle to think of another car that offers quite so much room inside. In addition, it’s exceptionally good value, offering all the quality and equipment of far more expensive cars. In short, it excels in every area a good estate car should.”

In addition to the two category awards, ŠKODA was also recognised as price point winners in four categories. With many class categories featuring models with vastly different prices, What Car? recognises models that are the best value within a set price bracket.

The recently revised Citigo was named a price point winner in the City Car category, while its supermini stablemate the Fabia was also named a winner in the Estate Car category (which was won by the Superb). The Superb was named a price point winner in the Executive Car category while the Karoq was a price point victor in the Family SUV category.

Further details of the What Car? Awards can be found in the February 2018 edition of the magazine and at www.whatcar.com. Additional assets for all ŠKODA models are downloadable from SkodaMedia.
